Golf Fore Good Sponsorship

Dear Friends,

This year, the Fairway Ladies and the Men’s Inner Club of Franklin Park invites you to play and support our annual charity golf tournament – “Golf Fore Good” to be held on Sunday, October 6, 2019.

Last year through the efforts of the Fairway Ladies, we are able to provide holiday gifts to 85  families in 3 local shelters around the Boston area.  Other funds went to assist the FINEX House, in their efforts toward the betterment of abused women, and The First Tee - Boston Chapter which helps kids build character and confidence, while developing the core values and life skills that stay with them on and off the course.  Last year this tournament raised over $5,000 - this year our goal is to raise $10,000.00.

Since our organization relies on the generosity of people like you, we ask that you pledge your support to our cause by becoming a sponsor:  Hole Sponsor - $100 (your name/business and logo on hole or Cart Sponsor $200 (your name/business and logo on of a cart);  Closest to the Pin Sponsor $50; Longest Drive Sponsor $50.  Hole/Cart donations can be earmarked for a specific charitable organization – click here for the pledge form.

We look forward to and appreciate you joining us to support our endeavors.  Thank you!

Golf Fore Good

Save the date! Our annual charity tournament, Golf Fore Good, is scheduled for Sunday October 13th.

For those of you interested in joining SWSL (South West Suburban League), please let us know no later than June 1.

Membership in SWSL allows you to enter a number of informal league tournaments which is a great opportunity to play at different courses and to meet other golfers. Greens fees at these courses are waived; however, you must rent a cart and encouraged to purchase lunch at the host course. All that is required to join is member dues of $5.00 (paid to Denise Dodds), have a handicap index of 40.0 or less and $5.00 entry fee for each tournament. All tournaments are stroke play with the exception of play at Robert T. Lynch (Putterham) which will be a TEAM SCRAMBLE. Member books are usually distributed one or two weeks before the start of play. When the handbooks are received your copy will be placed in the box outside the Ladies Locker Room.

The dates of play are as follows:

Rockland - Thursday, June 27

William Devine (Franklin Park) - Thursday, July 11

Robert T. Lynch (Putterham) - Thursday, July 25

Presidents - Thursday, August 1

Play in as many or as few as your schedule allows.

Opening Day Results

Thanks to the 27 ladies who participated in today's Opening Scramble. The weather remained dry for our round, although the golf course was wet. It was wet enough that carts were only allowed on the back 9. All play started on hole #10, players could use carts, and then as they made the turn from 18 to 1, they dropped the drive carts at the clubhouse and walked the front side. Many agreed that it was nice to play the back 9 while we were all fresh!

Thank you to Janet Frink, Susan Doll, and Terry Geldart in helping with player check-in and handing out goodies.

Results for the event -- only 5 strokes separated first place from last place (we had 8 teams) -- so the teams were extremely even.

1st place - Sue Peters, Marcia Bernet, Sheila Grandfield -- 71

2nd place - Myanna Pontoppidan, Terry Geldart, Lauri Costa - 71

3rd place - Debra Watson, Kate Brown, Eileen Vanderwood, Faye Slayton - 72

CTP #8 - Sue Nurse CTP #13 - Kate Brown

Rule Changes

There are a lot of updates to the rules of golf this year. If you’ve been watching the LPGA or PGA you may have already seen some of these in action. After a long time of making sure I was dropping at shoulder height I think dropping at knee height will be a tough adjustment for me.

The USGA has a summary of the changes on their website. It is 7.5 pages but I think it does a good job going over what has changed. Hope you find it helpful!

Interested in Membership?

It is finally Spring and it is time to think golf and we’d love to have you join us. Whether you are a new golfer or striving to break 80, newly graduated from college or a grandmother, we offer some great options to get you out to play golf on a regular basis and meet a great group of women.

We have two options on the weekend; an 18 hole group that plays on Saturday and Sunday mornings and a 9 hole group that plays on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. We run fun and competitive tournaments through out the season and participate in MassGolf events including Spring Teams and Fall Cup.

If you are interested in getting more information you can contact us at or attend our season kick-off event on March 30th at the golf course.

You can also join us now by completing the 2019 membership application or through the online form.

Look forward to seeing you on the course!

Season Kick Off is Set!

The date is set for our Fairway Ladies Golf Club Kick-off Meeting at the Clubhouse on Saturday, March 30 from 1pm-3pm. This event will be a great way to reconnect with members, meet new members, and learn about our plans for the 2019 season. Attendance is not required--but let us know either way if you plan to attend (via the form). Light refreshments will be served.

We will begin playing as a group later in April and our Opening Scramble is set for Saturday, May 4 (so save that date)!

2018 Season in Review

Hope some of you were able to get out and make some swings yesterday. It was nice to have a bonus golf day in December, especially considering how rough the weather was this year.

I pulled a rounds posted report from GHIN this morning to look at how many rounds we played, when we played them, where we played, and what our score differentials looked like. I masked everyone’s names so there is nothing to identify and individual member. I didn’t want anyone knowing how lousy my season was!

There was some interesting data from the report. We had 4.67 inches of rain in October and we had very few scores posted in October. We played a slightly higher percent of our rounds away from Franklin Park. George Wright is considered an away course for us. We also had a number of people with some really good rounds including a someone who shot a 77 at the Wright for a differential of 7.7!

I created this visualization in Tableau and you can see it here -

Holes in One

Congratulations to Cathy Mooney and Sue Nurse for their hole in ones!!
